Deception Bay State High School provides a comprehensive education for all students during the compulsory years of schooling. It consists of the eight nationally agreed key learning areas:

  • The Arts
  • English
  • Health and Physical Education (HPE)
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE)
  • Technology

 

ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS

The curriculum for the compulsory years of schooling is based on Essential Learnings.

The Essential Learnings support the development of:

  • deep understanding of key disciplinary concepts, facts and procedures
  • the processes students use to develop and demonstrate their understandings
  • the capabilities students need to work with knowledge, grow and manage themselves, and become active participants in local and global contexts.

HEADS OF DEPARTMENT

Heads of Department handle all enquiries about specific subjects. They oversee courses, assessment and teaching strategies for their subject areas. Heads of Department can be contacted by parents if there are any concerns regarding their student's progress in that subject area.

NOTE: the Senior Schooling HOD role involves assisting students 15 and over with a range of work readiness and future study option details. work experience and work placements, traineeships and Vocational Education and Training (VET), TAFE and University course information is available.

TEACHERS

Teachers are often the first point of call with a classroom concern. We encourage parents to telephone teachers directly or to make appointments to check on progress and to prevent problems arising. If contact connot be made, please leave a phone number and a suitable time for contact. Staff are encouraged to contact home as soon as difficulties may be evident. Staff are located in the Administration Building and in one of six staffrooms, designated SR1 - SR6.
