Enrichment Activities PDF Print E-mail

Deception Bay SHS has developed a vibrant house structure, which enrols all students in a family group crossing the year levels. As a member of Bradman, Cawley, Elliott or Gould students are encouraged to participate in challenges, novelty events, inter-house competitions and sporting events.

Belonging to a house brings with it responsibilities as well as rewards. Students’ positive behaviours and participation are rewarded through the points accumulation system which fosters friendly rivalry and competition between the houses.

School parades and carnivals have taken on new life as the House mascots stand proudly amid a school population dressed in red, yellow, blue and green as war cries ring out and teachers in matching coloured shirts lead house chants. Brightly coloured house banners designed and made by the students, fly in the school gym, designating the location of each family group within the parade area.

Four staff members assume the motivational roles of Heads of House and each is supported by a school captain in each House. Within the house system our student leadership team will be nurtured and developed throughout the year in preparation for the leadership selection process for the following year. Students from the Middle School will be afforded leadership roles within this system.

The House system is dynamic and vibrant even within its infancy and our school values student enrolment in the process and encourages students to demonstrate ownership and inclusion within the House family.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

All students learn well as they find niches in which to hone their skills and demonstrate their abilities in enrichment classes. Courses include woodturning, IT and computer projects, public speaking, dance, instrumental music program and hospitality. START QUT in the senior school allows capable students the opportunity to start their university studies, the completion of this course guarantees university entry.

Faculties in the school initiate their own enrichment activities and extension activities for those students who demonstrate mastery of curriculum content at their course level.
