Assessment Policy

This policy outlines the procedures for submission of work and completion of all assessment items (assignments & exams) in Years 7 -12.

Background principles

-          It is mandatory at Deception Bay State High School that students submit ALL assessment items.

-          The standard of work submitted must meet the basic requirements of the Assessment task.

-          A result cannot be awarded when there is no evidence, an ‘N’ will be given.

Curriculum Plan

-          All due dates for assessment items will be communicated to students and parents at the beginning of each term.

-          All assessment items will have a scheduled date for checking drafts and this date will also be communicated on the Curriculum Plan.

Late submission for Authority and Authority-registered subjects

-          The practice of awarding a lower standard as a penalty for lateness is not valid in a standards-based system of externally moderated school-based assessment. In cases where students do not submit a response to an assessment instrument by the due date, judgments should be made using evidence available on or before the due date.

All students are given teacher support and opportunity to demonstrate their learning; however students with verified disabilities are entitled to additional support. These students may require further modifications or adjustments to enable success.
